Instagram just permanently zapped some people's photos

Some Instagram users received a notification on Wednesday stating that certain photos in the app’s Stories archives had been permanently deleted due to a technical issue. The affected users were informed that their stories could not be restored. Meta, the company that owns Instagram, stated that a bug causing the deletion had been fixed. However, the error message on the black screen would still appear until July 2025. Instagram Stories are a more casual form of posting where users can upload content that disappears after 24 hours. The bug also affected the Story Highlights feature. This incident serves as a reminder for users to back up important media outside of the app.
